Lunden was born July 14, 1897 in Chicago. He studied at the California Inst. of Technology, and received a B.S. from the Mass. Inst. of Technology. He was architectural draftsman, Reginald D. Johnson, Architect, Pasadena, Calif., 1915-17, project architect, Cram and Ferguson, Boston, 1921-27, and owner, Samuel E. Lunden, Architect, Los Angeles, 1928-48 and 1957-60. He was partner, Lunden, Hayward, and O'Connor, L.A., 1949-57 and with Samuel E. Lunden, FAIA, and Joseph L. Johnson, AIA, L.A., 1960-78. He was consulting architect at Lyon Associates, Inc., L.A., 1978-83 and has been consulting architect in L.A., 1983 to the present
